This is the fourth in a series of posts sharing highlights from the 2016 Leadercast.
University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban knows a little bit about winning. He is a five time college football national champion and the only coach to win back-to-back BCS National Championships. He was a little hard to follow, but his presentation was filled with many important leadership tips. Here are just a few:
- Mindset is critical. The acronym WIN reminds us to think about What is Important Now and use that as a guide.
- A leader must have a great process and plan to achieve a goal
- Everyone needs the work ethic and discipline to execute every day.
- The choices you make impact reaching your goal. Focus on your vision, not your present circumstance.
- Saban shared his pyramid of success, pointing out that it is not about winning
- Be a team – there is an “I” in team – individuals, intensity, immediacy, intelligence
- Be positive – your energy impacts everyone around you
- Do your job – Have the work ethic and discipline to do what you’re supposed to do
- If you ask someone for help, don’t forget there IS an IOU attached to it – you owe them the commitment to do your very best
- Leadership is your willingness to help other people for their benefit
- Be someone others want to emulate
- Care about people
- Be willing to serve others
- Appreciate the contributions of other people
