Below are links to five of the articles about leadership that caught my eye last month. One of the fun things about year end is the “best of” lists that are published. I couldn’t resist including a couple as great resources for you. Grab a hot cocoa, find a comfy seat, and enjoy.

  1. Leaders would agree that authenticity is an important quality. But, what does that really mean? In last month’s HBR.org IdeaCast podcast and transcript, Medtronic CEO and author Bill George (Discover Your True North, Becoming an Authentic Leader) shares his thoughts on the topic. Listen to or read Becoming A More Authentic Leader. It’s a really interesting interview!
  2. “In case any doubt remains, yet another report has confirmed a link between companies that have more women in leadership roles and those with better returns for investors.” I have personally witnessed the cultural shift that happens when a diverse executive team shifts to all white male. Learn more about the gender effect by reading More Women At The Top Could Spell Less Corporate Trouble published last month in The Washington Post.
  3. Do you really notice the good things that happen at work? Most people tend to focus on what went wrong or on other problems that came up. In The Powerful Effect of Noticing Good Things At Work on Harvard Business Review (HBR.com), authors Joyce Bono and Theresa Glomb suggest that intentional attention to positive things helps us manage our stress and provides an emotional counter balance to the negative. The article includes a simple exercise you can try with your team that might really lift them up and provides a mechanism to manage stress in the long run.
  4. The first end-of-year list is one I hope you will bookmark and refer back to often. Jeff Haden of Inc.com did us all a favor and shared Jurgen Appelo’s (Happy Melly) 100 Best Business Books of 2015. The article includes links to all 100 titles. Enjoy the learning.
  5. FastCompany.com rounds out the top five with another list; The 10 Best and Worst Leaders of 2015. The “who” isn’t as important as the “what.” What did these leaders do to rise to the top or struggle and fail? What can we learn from them?

Well, that’s my December top five. Feel free to add a comment and share your thoughts!
