(This continues a series of posts sharing insights I gained from this year’s Leadercast event.)

In 2013, Aja Brown made history, becoming Compton’s youngest elected mayor at the age of 31. With a background in community and economic development, her plan was to improve outcomes through policy reform, innovation, and strategic partnerships. She has already had a positive impact, making major strides in improving the quality of life for Compton residents and stakeholders.

Below are some of Ms. Brown’s thoughts on brave leadership:

Bravery is when we make the decision and choose to live and not just exist. We have to be brave enough to see something bigger and be something better.

Your vision needs to be more than you can achieve alone.

Brave leaders are not superhuman because they never fail but they are brave because they never quit. They live for a purpose, not for praise.

Think about all the lives you have changed because you made the decision to lead.

Thank you for making the decision to lead. You are changing lives every day.
