On Saturday, I launched a new #100HappyDays campaign. As explained in Saturday’s post, I feel like there has been a recent uptick in the amount of online judgment, criticism, and negativity about all kinds of topics and issues in the world. I don’t want to be dragged down into that, so I’m choosing to look for the joy in each day and sharing a related photo on Instagram and other social networks.

As the time approached to write this week’s Tuesday Tidbit, I wondered if the same approach would work, well, at work.

It’s the dog days of summer. It’s been hot and rainy (at least here in Ohio!). Many workplaces are short-staffed as people are trying to get vacations in before school starts in a few weeks. Patience may be stretched. Pressure may be on as the third quarter is nearly half over (!) and execs are again reviewing progress toward 2015 goals for a final push.

What’s a frontline leader to do?

Focus on the positive.

What great work is being done? What team member stepped up? What new account launched well? What new project is making a positive difference? What great teamwork are you observing?

Consider being fully present for the next one hundred days to the good things happening on your team. Don’t keep the joy to yourself. Consider sharing one a day with your team, either electronically or a good old-fashioned poster in the team’s workspace. If you are so inclined, share it online using #100HappyDaysAtWork.

Remember, you get what you focus on. If you focus on good work, positive contributions, creative thinking and great teamwork, you’ll get more of it. Watch what happens for one hundred days!
