I recently participated in a panel discussion on the topic of “Superwoman: Fact or Myth.” I’m still wondering why so many of us put this unnecessary and unrealistic pressure on ourselves. Below are some of the thoughts I shared with the conference attendees about the term itself. What do you think?

Instead of Superwoman (one word), trying to be everything to everyone and excelling at all of it (and also not possible); commit to being a super woman (two words); be present in the world as the best version of yourself.

How do you do that?

First, define what your priorities are. (YOUR priorities!) Then, evaluate how much time, energy and other resources you have to give. Next, allocate those resources according to your previously stated priorities.

Choose your bliss – what makes YOU feel happy and fulfilled – rather than an inauthentic sense of satisfaction compared to someone else’s choices and anyone else’s priorities.

Life is not about having it all and doing it all. Life is about defining what YOUR all is and then embarking on that journey. (Credit to my daughter, Heather Whaling (aka @prTini) and her thoughts on “Define Your All.”)

Let’s abolish the unrealistic pressure of “Superwoman”. Instead, let us go forward and be the powerful and amazing super women we really are.
