This week, I am speaking at the Columbus Women In Leadership Symposium on the topic of “Purposeful Life: Living and Following Your Dreams.” With apologies to Dr. Seuss…oh, the places we can go!

Many people confuse purpose with passion; they are not the same. Just being passionate about something is not enough. The key word is purposeful. Once you identify your passion(s) and can link it to meaningful purpose, you’re on to something.

What is a meaningful purpose? Something that serves others by filling a need. If no one needs or wants what you are offering, there is no meaningful purpose. Passion alone won’t get you anywhere.

Gain clarity about what excites you, build up the necessary skills, be focused on goals that serve others and always try to move in that direction. That is the journey of a purposeful life.
