Watch For The Light, Readings for Advent and Christmas. Ecumenical writings by various authors collected and published by Plough Publishing in September, 2014.

Watch For The LightI wish I had received this book earlier so you would have had more time to purchase it before Advent begins tomorrow. It is a serious and worthwhile daily devotional for Advent and the twelve days after Christmas, ending the day after Epiphany.

I say serious because there is a level of commitment required. The devotions are not quick half page lessons filled with cutesy holiday stories. You will read four to five pages each day that will cause you to think hard about the Christian meaning of the Advent and Christmas season and where you are in your personal faith. Interestingly, there are very few biblical readings associated with the devotions. Each writing is authored by a different writer who shares personal thoughts from a spiritual heart. A sampling of the authors includes Martin Luther, T.S. Eliot, Meister Eckhart and Sylvia Plath. As I said, serious!

A consistent undercurrent in the readings is that Advent is not only a celebration of events past. It is a time of Christian reflection and preparation for Christ’s second coming. Followers must be ready to face Him today, tomorrow, next year and anytime in the future.

If you are seeking a spiritual preparation for Christmas, hurry and click here to order Watch For The Light. Keep the book on your shelf and make it part of your annual holiday traditions.

Note: A copy of this book was provided by the publisher at no cost to me. However, in no other way did they influence the content of this review.
