I have had a sleep-deprived and emotionally draining week. l was tested in many ways: my capacity to empathize with a situation I’ve never been in, my ability to show compassion for someone whose actions disappointed me, and my understanding of the interpersonal dynamics when loyalties are tested and trust is broken.

What I have observed through this process is that even the strongest people become raw with fear and uncertainty, the impact of one’s actions can never be underestimated, and being rooted in love is the best way to deal with difficult situations. The importance of integrity in thinking, planning, communicating, and acting was repeatedly reaffirmed.

Today, I am thankful for the challenges of leadership.

Through this most recent experience I’ve learned more about myself and what is important to me as a human being. Critical support relationships I am blessed to have around me were strengthened. My vision of what leadership is, especially in challenging times, was brought into even sharper focus. For these outcomes and more, I am truly thankful.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. -William Arthur Ward
