Like much of the world yesterday, I was gripped by the images of the Chilean mineworker rescues.  I was reminded over and over how fortunate we are to have people among us who are willing to compromise their own safety to rescue others from life-threatening danger.

Today, I am thankful for rescue workers: emergency medical technicians, firemen and women, police officers, Army National Guard, and any other people who deliberately put themselves in position to help others out of dire situations.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. -William Arthur Ward
