Bread-and-Wine-cover

In November 2014, I read and posted thoughts on the Plough Publishing House Advent and Christmas devotional book, Watch For The Light. I am happy to share that Plough also offers a companion book for Lent and Easter, Bread And Wine. In the same style as Watch For The Light, an assortment of authors have each contributed a four to five page story and reflection relating to the spirit of renewal and opportunity that arrives with springtime and Easter.

Don’t be put off by the thought that we are already ten days into Lent. You can catch up. Once you start reading, it will be easy to read more than one entry a day for a few days. Or, just read one at a time no matter when you finish! Be sure to keep the book on your shelf to easily revisit during your annual Easter preparation.

The 72 entries are divided into six progressive sections; Invitation, Temptation, Passion, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and New Life. The variety of authors includes Kahlil Gibran, Martin Luther, Dylan Thomas, Leo Tolstoy, and Oscar Wilde, to name but a few. The  content is all focused on the good news of Easter;

“His empty tomb turns our attention away from all that is wrong with us and with the world, and spurs us on to experience the abundant life he promises.”

As I am working my way through the book, I find the reflections to be easy-to-read yet thought-provoking, a great combination. As I close the book after reading each entry, I feel satisfied with the author’s thoughts, inspired to process them in my own mind, and already looking forward to the next entry. For me, they are a great way to start the day!

You can have that same experience. Don’t wait. Order Bread And Wine today or stop at your local bookstore and pick up a copy, Read the first entry tonight. You’ll be glad you did.
