I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for anyone who thanks a parent for any part of their success. Most Moms and Dads work really hard and make many quiet sacrifices to help their kids grow up to be happy, healthy and successful. Of course, the child had to do the hardest work to seize the opportunities and achieve the goals, but they could not do it alone. When they take a moment to thank Mom and/or Dad, there is something very special about that gratitude.

So, of course, I was mush as I heard Super Bowl MVP and Denver Bronco Von Miller respond when asked by Ellen DeGeneres how he celebrated after the game:

I really just celebrated with my Mom. She’s been there for me since…[applause]…every single football game, flag football, not only football games but track meets, assemblies, everything that I’ve ever been involved in, she’s been there. It was a special moment to celebrate with my Mom with the confetti dropping and to have that moment with her.

Friday food for thought…

When you win – at anything – who do you celebrate with? Whether it’s an athletic event, a job promotion, a school graduation, reaching a fitness goal, or recovering from an illness, you did not do it alone. You could not do it alone. Take the time to reflect on who helped you, supported you, and encouraged you. Then find a way to acknowledge them. You might not stand in the middle of a stadium with confetti dropping around you, but you can still have that special moment of gratitude and victory together.
