Newwspaper, coffee and iPhoneBelow are links to five of the articles about leadership that caught my interest last month. Grab a coffee, a healthy snack, and enjoy.

  1. Are there particular habits that great leaders have in common? In his article on Inc.com, Peter Economy describes “6 Essential Habits of Every Great Leader” as identified by Rahul Aggarwal, founder and director of Designhill. The list starts with embracing change and ends with sets an example. Read the article for more!
  2. Jena McGregor of The Washington Post reported “Five Great Pieces of Advice From Fortune’s Most Powerful Women.” My favorite was “If you want to grow, get comfortable with discomfort.” Which of the five stand out for you?.
  3. Have you lived through a business reorganization? I have, twice. For some, it can be a very challenging time, filled with angst. Do you stay? Do you go? What might it mean for your team? Harvard Business Review‘s Rebecca Knight wrote “What To Do And Say After A Tough Reorganization.” It is chock full of great advice.
  4. I really enjoy the perspectives shared in Adam Bryant’s On Leadership column in the NY Times. One of his October interviews was with Gary Smith of Ciena. He touches on a variety of topics from the influence of his parents to building a strong culture to his favorite interview question. Read more in “Build A Culture on Trust and Respect.”
  5. I just spoke about generational diversity at the Ohio Diversity and Leadership Conference, so coming across this last article seemed serendipitous. Read “Across The Generations” by Kimberly Olson for Diversity Woman Magazine. It is filled with terrific information about our changing workplace, thanks to the Boomers, Gen Xers and Millenials.

Well, that’s my October top five. Feel free to add a comment and share a favorite of yours!

Lead on.
