My January 2nd post shared that DOING is my #OneWord for 2014.
What can I be doing to ensure that I am being the leader I want to be?
Let him who would move the world first move himself. -Socrates
This past week, I made my travel arrangements for Steve Farber‘s “Extreme Leadership Summit“. While reviewing the schedule and the great speakers who will be there, I could literally feel myself start tingling, getting energized and excited about three days focused on leadership. Equally as important will be a refresh on being the kind of leader I want to be – someone who leads from the heart, someone who views leadership as service, someone who builds others up higher than even they imagined they could go.
I suddenly realized that I haven’t been doing too much about keeping my own leadership skills sharp since I graduated from Otterbein University last year. I haven’t reallly fed my passion for leadership studies since May; in fact, I would say the opposite is true. I have starved it!
My commitment to #Doing2014 came to mind. In order to be the leader I want to be, one thing I need to do is continually invest in my own development.
The Extreme Leadership Summit is one great investment. But, that’s not until April. For now, I’m re-reading two of my favorite leadership books to keep that level of re-inspiration fully present: James Autry’s The Servant Leader and Steve Farber’s Greater Than Yourself.

I’m #Doing2014. Who knows what’s next? I’ll share more updates along the way.
