Last night, during the coverage of the short track speed skating events, NBC aired a taped interview between Chris Collinsworth and Apolo Anton Ohno.  They were discussing Ohno’s incredible training regimen that helped him get back in shape after a whirlwind taste of celebrity (i.e., Dancing With the Stars champion, awards shows, late night TV appearances, etc.)

As I listened, I thought Ohno’s words applied to something far greater than an athlete preparing for the Olympics.  His words apply to life:

“Before everyday you go to sleep, ask yourself one question: Did you do every single thing you could today to make sure you did your best?  It’s hard to answer yes every single day.

I don’t like to look at it in terms of me outworking my competition.  I like to look at it as me conquering myself.  Me being able to  face my own fears, and distractions, and weaknesses, and say that I overcame them.”

Imagine asking yourself that one question every night before you go to sleep.  Would it cause you to do anything differently the next day?

Imagine focusing on simply being your very best, instead of comparing yourself to others.  Would that open up any new possibilities for you?
