Did Monday’s #AgingWell post leave you wondering about ACV? As promised, below is the latest change I’ve made toward living a healthier life by my sixtieth birthday later this year.

I start every day with the ACV Detox Tea.

What is ACV? Apple cider vinegar. Wait, uncrinkle your nose! It’s not nearly as bad as you might think.

I’ve read a lot about various ACV drinks and the positive health benefits. At the same time, I couldn’t imagine regularly drinking vinegar. Ew! But, to my surprise, raw apple cider vinegar is very different than the vinegar usually used in salad dressing. And, when combined with the other ingredients, it actually makes a pretty good morning beverage!

Some of the key benefits claimed include controlling blood sugar, as a moderate aid in weight loss, and improving indigestion. Other noted benefits include a positive impact on cholesterol and providing an energy boost,   There are also several topical uses for ACV, none of which I have tried but all sound interesting.

So far, I’ve noticed three changes:

  1. A reduction in my desire for caffeine. I’ve gone from three to four cups of coffee in the morning to one or two.
  2. An improvement in my skin. A lifelong psoriasis condition typically gets worse this time of year. It has gotten remarkably better in the last week or so.
  3. A curbing of my appetite. Although I do still eat a healthy breakfast, I am not as tempted to snack in the morning as I used to be.

The ACV Detox Tea Recipe:

In a large mug, add:

  • 2 Tablespoons Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tablespoon Raw Honey
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Some recipes include a dash of Cayenne Pepper; I do not add this
  • 8 – 10 oz hot water (I use the large mug setting on my Keurig)

Stir well and sip/drink first thing in the morning. Wait about 45 minutes before drinking other morning beverages or eating breakfast. (Some websites also suggest drinking this before every meal; I only have a cup in the morning.)
