Today is Inauguration Day.  While it is not a presidential inaugural year, there are governors, senators and local representatives all around the country taking an oath to represent the people who elected them, to uphold the law of the land, and support and enhance the future of the country we live in.

As leaders, we were not necessarily “elected,” although people certainly choose to follow or not.  We may not have been sworn in, but we have accepted the responsibility to do what is best for the people we lead, to abide by the accepted policies and procedures, and support and enhance the future of the company we work for.

What if this was your inauguration day?  If you were taking an oath to lead, what goals or objectives would you present?  How would you show your commitment while also inspiring commitment?  What future would you want to help create?

Objectives are not fate; they are direction. They are not commands; they are commitments. They do not determine the future; they are means to mobilize the resources and energies of the business for the making of the future.

Tuesday Tidbits are weekly messages I send to my leadership team. They are generally short & sweet, often focused on leadership or teamwork, always positive and, hopefully, motivational. I hope you also find some meaning in them.
