Awards

Sunday night’s Emmy Awards got me thinking…what if there were academy awards at work?

Who are the stars on your team? Who are the supporting players? Note that in the entertainment awards, they both win, because they are both important to a show’s success.

It’s not just the actors in front of the camera who get trophies, though. There are awards for the writers, the producers, the camera pros, the set and costume designers. They are all worthy of recognition for their individual contributions to their show’s success.

Consider your team members. If there were academy awards for teams, who would win which award? Have your told them how important they are to your team’s success? No golden trophy or lavish ceremony needed; a pat on the back and encouraging words will do just fine.

Think about…

On your team, who would you name as:

  • Best team player in a lead role?
  • Best team player in a supporting role?
  • Best project leader?
  • Best crisis handler?
  • Best production associate?
  • Best team builder?
  • Best problem solver?
  • Best contagious attitude?
  • Best relationship builder?
  • Best mission support?
  • Best communicator?
Now think about…

Are you employing their skills and gifts in the most impactful way? Are you helping them build upon their strengths? Do you consider each individual’s abilities as you assign new work? Have you discussed a career path with each team member that leverages their best work toward promotion opportunities?

A high-functioning and committed TEAM will be your reward.
