I love a good summer storm. The temperature usually cools and the garden gets a much needed natural drink. I’m in awe of the lightening and enjoy the soothing sound of a steady rain. And, I always hope for a rainbow.

As your next summer storm dwindles to a light drizzle, look outside and scan the skies for where the sunshine is breaking through. Follow the rays away from the sun and, if all the conditions are right, the sunlight combined with the water droplets in the air causes the rainbow to form.

Rainbows are a beautiful symbol of hope, going all the way back to Biblical writings about Noah and the ark through to today’s use of the rainbow in the Pride movement. But, as the old saying goes, without the rain, there would be no rainbow. We have to endure the storms to enjoy the rainbows.

As you struggle through a storm, whether literal or figurative, remember that a rainbow may appear soon. Hang on.

Rainbow

Photo taken last week in Ocean City, MD after an early evening storm quickly passed through. We were fortunate enough to see a whole rainbow across the ocean, a partial double rainbow followed by a pink sky rainbow. Beautiful, all of it.
