Have you picked any violets this Spring? They are so tiny and so pretty. Perfect for a little shot glass bouquet. The violet flower and its leaves are also fragrant, used in many designer brand perfumes and essential oils.

Consider the imagery in this quote. The violet grows low to the ground and is easily stepped on. The flower is so delicate that a misstep would surely crush it. But, the heel that crushed it will then be perfumed with the beautiful fragrance of the flower and the leaves.

As Mark Twain points out in today’s quote, forgiveness does the same. When we forgive someone, we offer a delicate gift. We perfume the heel that crushed us. We may have been stepped on at one time but, just like the fragrance of the trodden violet, we are still present and we are still beautiful.
