After a two-plus year break, I decided to bring back an old feature on Being Fully Present, with a new name and adjusted frequency and format.

“Leadership In The News,” formerly “Newslink: Leadership,” is a collection of recent news items loosely related to the development and practice of leadership. However, instead of sharing one article a week, I’ll share five articles a month, all in one post. This is the first, with articles that caught my eye in July. So, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!

NEWS_small1. Summer might be half over, but there is always time for a good book, right? Here is a leadership summer reading list from the Washington Post.

2. Is empathy one of the qualities you look for in newe employees? Stewart Butterfield, CEO of Slack, does. Find out why in this New York Times Corner office interview, “Is Empathy On Your Resume?

3. As someone who might be part of the “modern obsession with feeling happy and thinking positively,” I was drawn to The Happiness Backlash on HBR.org. What do you think? Is happiness at work is an insatiable desire?

4. Do you remember Captain “Sully” Sullenberger? The retired airline pilot (and aviation hero) shared some interesting thoughts in this Forbes article, What Is Needed When The Unexpected Happens…And It Will.

5. As the author of a blog titled Being Fully Present, how could I resist an article titled “The Power of Mindful Leadership”? Read it here on the Huff Post blog.

Well, that’s the July five. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Lead on, friends.
