Last week’s post challenged you to think about whether or not your team members are thankful for you.  We’re flipping the emphasis this week to appreciating your people.  Hopefully, as leaders, we don’t only do this once a year, though!

Think about how you feel when someone tells you a project went well or a quarterly report looks good. Maybe you are fortunate enough to have a leader who regularly reminds you that you are a valuable part of the team. Or, perhaps a customer comments on the great service your team provides. Don’t forget to pass on that positive feedback to the people who make you look so good!

Any success that we have is due to the day-in, day-out efforts of the team. From my own experience I know that a little bit of sincere appreciation goes a long way. Of course, you need to know how your team members prefer to receive such feedback; publicly in a team meeting, or a one-on-one conversation, or a simple handwritten note card. In return, you will recieve commitment, loyalty and extra effort when needed.

Here are some additional thoughts on expressing appreciation:

Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary. -Margaret Cousins

Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you’ll soon find many others around you. -Ralph Marston

Those who have the ability to be grateful are the ones who have the ability to achieve greatness. -Steve Maraboli

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you have a Thanksgiving filled with joy, gratitude and a fully present experience with family and friends.
