Sacred Seed, a collection of essays curated by The Global Peace Initiative of Women with an introduction by Dr. Vandana Shiva, published by The Golden Sufi Center in November, 2014.

When driving past farmland, have you ever noticed the signs planted along the crops, indicating what company provided the seeds that were planted? Seeds have shifted from a free and renewable resource to a symbol of corporate control, biodiversity loss, farmer dependence and debt.

For centuries, the planting cycle represented continual nourishment,  agricultural heritage and the hope of life. As the integrity and diversity of seed is threatened by commercialism, Sacred Seed strives to rekindle a reverence for the seed as the most basic symbol of enduring life and growth.

This collection of short essays and the accompanying photography is thought-provoking and soul-stirring. Some essays are based in religion, some in science, some in philosophical thought. Regardless of personal beliefs, all readers will realize that the seed is critical to our continued evolution. The essayists hope that we also connect our relationship to the earth and all that grows in it to the future of humankind.

I will admit to never giving any significant thought to seed before reading this book. To truly live with a global perspective on life requires that we all do. Click here to order Sacred Seed today.
