Leading into Sunday night’s football game the New England Patriots, particularly quarterback Tom Brady, had come under fire from fans and sportswriters wondering if the team’s best days were behind them after a bad loss the previous week.  Was Tom Brady too old? Was Coach Bill Belichick the problem? It was a week of tough practices and tougher media interviews.

During NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast, announcer Chris Collinsworth shared that, according to Tom Brady,

The word of the week was TRUST. Just do your job. Quit trying to do somebody else’s job. Just do what you’re trained to do and everything else will fall into place.

Trust. Trust your teammates. Trust your coaches. Trust the game plan. Trust your preparation.

The Patriots won the game, soundly defeating the previously undefeated Cincinnati Bengals 43-17.

Think about your workplace. How does trust – or the lack of trust – play a role in your team’s level of success? Do your team members trust their co-workers, their leadership and the business plan? Do they trust the training you’ve provided? Take a hard look and then commit to building and/or maintaining a culture of trust on your team.
