Derek Jeter quotes have appeared in the Tuesday Tidbit numerous times over the last twelve years.  Yes, I’m a fan. A far more important reason is that Jeter’s approach to his work applies to much more than just baseball.  As his playing career nears its end with Jeter’s final appearance in Yankee Stadium this week, it is only appropriate to share a “best of” quote sampling.

“There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do – and I believe that.” -Derek Jeter

“I’m not perfect; no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. I think you try to learn from those mistakes.” -Derek Jeter

“You gotta have fun. Regardless of how you look at it, we’re playing a game. It’s a business, it’s our job, but I don’t think you can do well unless you’re having fun.” -Derek Jeter

“Surround yourself with good people. People who are going to be honest with you and look out for your best interests.” -Derek Jeter

I join the throngs in appreciating the Yankees’ Captain for his fine example of teamwork and leadership, his hard work and commitment to excellence and his respectful demeanor toward his coaches, teammates, fans and the general public. I am also thankful for the impressive legacy he leaves with the Yankees, New York City and Major League Baseball.  We are all fortunate to have borne witness.

I wonder how he will use his influence next? I can’t wait to find out!
