As a lifelong Yankee fan and a fan of their shortstop, Derek Jeter, I was very interested in the coverage surrounding this year’s Major League Baseball All Star Game. Jeter was voted to the team for the 14th and final time, as he is retiring at the end of this season.

Among the many stories and interviews, the following quote stood out:

It doesn’t take any talent to play hard. Someone might be better or have more talent, but there’s no reason someone should outwork you. -Derek Jeter

That absolutely applies to more than baseball!

Substitute the word “work” for the word “play” and read it again.

It doesn’t take any talent to work hard. Someone might be better or have more talent, but there’s no reason someone should outwork you.

Think about it. Are you being outworked?

Tuesday Tidbits are weekly messages I send to my leadership team. They are generally short & sweet, often focused on leadership or teamwork, always positive and, hopefully, motivational. I hope you also find some meaning in them.
