It’s generally not a good thing to answer the phone and hear one of your children crying on the other end.  That’s what happened to me Monday morning.

My daughter rarely calls me during the day.  She’s busy running her business and I’m busy at work.  So when I saw her number on my phone at 8:30 in the morning, I knew I had to take the call.

In between grown-up sobs, her little girl voice cried, “Someone broke into our house last night, Mom.  While we were upstairs sleeping!”

Today, I am thankful that no physical harm came to my daughter and son-in-law.

Fortunately, just replaceable “stuff” was stolen. Bicycles, iPads, a laptop and a few other possessions.  All of those can be bought again.  Happily, the few things of sentimental value to them were not taken.

The police are investigating.  The damaged door will be repaired.  The stolen stuff will be replaced.  The home security will be beefed up.

Life will go on.  Thankfully.
