Thank you Thursday

As I write this, it’s Wednesday evening, and I’ve been sitting with my fingers poised over my laptop, talking to my husband and watching a recording of today’s Ellen Show.  Until a few moments ago, I was stuck on what to write for this week’s TYT post.

It has been a very trying few weeks.  I’ve been working extraordinarily long days, six and seven days a week, feeling a lot of pressure on a couple of projects I’m on, and consistently finding myself behind the eight ball at the end of the day.  I’m not sleeping well.  OK, I’m exhausted.  And, if that’s not enough, I’m putting a little bit of weight on, because that’s what I do when I’m stressed.

I struggled to focus on gratitude.

My husband, perhaps trying to give me an “out” from my writers’ cramp (gratitude cramp?), told me to stop trying.  “You don’t have to write something every single Thursday!  Maybe there just isn’t something to be thankful for today.”

Wha-a-a-a-at?

Today, I am thankful that every day there is something to be thankful for.

I started to compile a list of the usual – family, health, home, food, comforts.  But really, every day, it comes down to just one thing:

Simply being alive.

Thank you, Juli. Glad it struck a chord with you. Choose gratitude!

I’ve survived two heart attacks and am in an ongoing battle with COPD. I can tell you there is nothing simple about being alive. It is a gift of unmeasurable proportion and, in many cases, would be impossible without divine intervention.

So true! Thanks for the reminder

  5. El Says:

Hi, Rick! Absolutely agree. Living can often be a struggle. But, many times, I think I forget the importance of just that in the midst of so many other day-to-day pressures, wants, etc. Simply living is a blessing for which gratitude should be paid. Thanks for stopping by – and good wishes as you battle your personal health challenges.

  6. El Says:

Hi, Brent! Thanks for popping over and commenting. What are you thankful for?

There is always something to be grateful for no matter how small. Keep up the positive thinking.

  8. I was driving home today and a bush turkey flew across in front of me, he narrowly avoided being hit! I found myself saying out loud and pretty aggressively ‘I AM GRATEFUL FOR GODS SAKE!’ weird…..
when i thought about it i realised that I had associated the turkey with thanksgiving and gratitude and seen his rash gesture as a wake up call to gratitude!
I am thankful couldn’t be more so for my life my awesome opportunity to just BE!

  9. El Says:

Thanks, Chris! That is one of the lessons I’ve learned and, hopefully, shared over the year I’ve been writing the Thank you Thursday post…living in gratitude puts one in position to realize it is the many small gifts that makes life so grand.

  10. El Says:

My, goodness, what an experience! Thankful that you avoided hitting the turkey, as it would not have been pleasant for your, either. Thanks for sharing your story!
