The Radical Leap Re-Energized: Doing What You Love in the Service of People Who Love What You Do, by Steve Farber. Published by No Limit Publishing Group, 2011 by Extreme Leadership, Inc.

If you’re a regular reader, you know that I’m a unabashed fan of Steve Farber. His Greater Than Yourself (GTY) is one of my all time favorite books; not just about leadership, but about how people should treat each other in all aspects of life. I was fortunate to speak to Steve last year a couple of times about GTY. During one of those calls, he mentoned that he was re-launching his two previous books in one combined edition. He was very excited about the prospect. I’ve been eagerly waiting its publication ever since.

The Radical Leap Re-Energized is that book.

In Steve’s wryly humorous style, he combines The Radical Leap and The Radical Edge into this new volume of extreme leadership. “Doing what you love in the service of people who love what you do” isn’t just the subtitle of the book, it’s what Steve helps readers understand about the joy and passion of leadership.

So, what’s new?.

The most obvious is the linking of the two previous stories into one seamless and engaging novel. Getting to know the characters again was a little like seeing old friends when you visit your home town. There is a bit of mystery combined with whimsy, there are real life people combined with make-believe people who could be real, there is sincerity combined with a bit of snarkiness. The people in this book have personality – in a radical kind of way!

A terrific addition to the book is the periodic insertion of QR codes throughout the book. Scan the codes with your smartphone and be immediately linked to enhanced online content that make the story quite literally come alive. There is Steve sharing a lesson with us from San Diego’s Mission Beach where the story begins. Another is Steve interviewing one of the real life business leaders who play a role in the story. Don’t skip over the codes; stop, watch, listen and consider.

At the end of the book is The Daily Handbook for Extreme Leaders. This booklet was part of the story, written by two of the characters from whom many lessons emerge. It provides a blueprint of sorts, a specific path to follow to develop the skills needed to become an extreme leader. It’s not all easy stuff, but the nature of anything extreme is challenging.

I completely enjoyed getting re-acquainted with this story and the leadership lessons within. Not only was the Radical Leap re-energized, but so was I. As my professional life has recently taken an unexpected turn, this book inspires me to continue living leadership as I believe it to be: doing what you love in the service of people who love what you do.

Read the book. Watch the video content. Start your own WUP and continue growing. (You’ll have to read the book to learn what a WUP is!)

Lead, re-energized.
