You are the window
We have probably all experienced this at one time or another.
You wash a window and stand back, admiring the shine. Then, later that day, you look at the window again and are taken aback by the smudges you now see. Streaks are crossing what you thought were clean windows.
Of course, the smears didn’t just appear; they were there all the time. You simply couldn’t see them until the sunshine shifted and cast a new light on the window.
Human beings are just like that window. Our views and opinions are always there. The circumstances we find ourselves in is what brings them to light. Our attitude is like the glass in a window, filtering our view. How we see everything outside of our window depends on whether the glass is clean, dirty, or even just a bit smudged. How we view our life experiences depends on our attitude toward them.
“Keep yourself clean and bright; for you are the window through which you must see the world.”
- George Bernard Shaw
How do you want to see the world? How are your views filtered? You are the window. Is your glass clean and clear? Or, is it streaked with the opinions of others or your own past experiences?
Just as you never know when the sun will pop out from behind clouds to reveal the shine – or smudges – on your windows, you also never know when your attitude or opinions will be tested and revealed.
What steps are you taking to keep your view clean and bright?
